Faced with the success of the BMW E36 Cabriolet, Audi could not stand idly by. Thus, at the Geneva Motor Show 1991, the brand presented an 80 in a convertible version from the concept of a discoverable car exhibited at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1989. The Audi Cabriolet was born! The strength of this model was to offer a leisure car with an elegant and refined design as well as many advantages in terms of comfort. The Audi took the opposite route of the BMW, which claimed to be more "raw". Here, performance was put in the back seat in order to offer a car more focused on high-end comfort.

Promoted using the Volkswagen program in the WRC, the brand's "R" range offers the sportiest models in its catalogue. If you found the Golf GTI very sporty, wait until you see the Golf R and its 300hp! The seventh generation of the Golf, launched in 2012, received an "R" version the following year. Rather sober aesthetically, the sedan nevertheless offers a solid performance thanks to its Audi engine. Comfort and finishes are also present.

In the early 1980s, a Swedish driver named Kenneth Eriksson stood out behind the wheel of an Opel Kadett. In 1986, he was recruited by Volkswagen Motorsport as an official driver. A status he would not leave until his final WRC season in 2002 with Skoda. After a first break-in season at the wheel of the Golf Mk.2 GTI 16V, Kenneth Eriksson managed to develop the full potential of the little German car the following season. In Monte-Carlo 1987, the Swede won a superb 5th place. Enough to propel this Golf into the legend of the "Monte-Carl’". This would just be the start of some outstanding results for the Eriksson / Volkswagen Golf duo. The driver would finish 4th in the championship with a victory at the Safari, which is no small feat!
